JASPER, Alabama - Greg Reed, Republican candidate for the Alabama Senate in District 5, today released the following statement on Howard Garrison’s withdrawal from the Republican Primary: “If I have learned one thing over these many months on the campaign trail, it is that you get to know and respect your opponents even though you’re fighting for the same office. Howard Garrison is a fine, respectable man who has accomplished much in his life and business. He has been a formidable opponent, and I wish him a speedy recovery and best of luck in his other ventures. We welcome Howard’s supporters to our campaign because I feel as though Howard’s supporters and mine have the same goal – send someone with consistent, conservative and character-based leadership to Montgomery. “Now we know the race to be the Republican nominee in November will definitely be determined in the June 1st Primary. I look forward to a spirited campaign with my now only opponent and can’t wait to get out there and tell the voters why Greg Reed is the best man of character for the state senate. I will be taking to the voters my message of revving up the engines of economic growth in our area to move toward a more prosperous future where there is opportunity and jobs for all.” Mr. Reed is seeking the Senate seat that is comprised of all of Walker and parts of Tuscaloosa, Winston and Jefferson Counties. Greg and his wife, the former Mitsy Harbison, are natives of Cordova, Alabama. They have been married for 21 years and have three sons. Their sons Andrew and James are 15-year-old twins, and John Michael is 13 years old. The Reed boys attend Jasper City Schools in the 9th and 7th grades. Mr. Reed has worked in the medical equipment industry since 1991. He has been for the past six years Vice President of Preferred Medical Systems. Preferred Medical is an exclusive representative of diagnostic medical ultrasound systems in six states for General Electric Healthcare.
