March 23, 2010 (JASPER, ALABAMA) - Greg Reed, Republican candidate for the Alabama Senate in District 5, today said the passage of health care reform by Congress will unite Republicans at every level and will boost chances for GOP candidates all across the country. “The health care bill just passed by Congress is proof in the pudding that the Democrats are either completely out of touch with the American people or they are arrogantly tuning out the chant of discontent from rank and file citizens about health care reform,” Mr. Reed said. “This legislation will become a rallying cry for Republicans in the November elections from the courthouse to the halls of Congress,” he added. Greg Reed said the new and higher taxes on America’s small businesses and workers included in the bill are detrimental to job creation and economic growth, especially given the current state of the economy. He added that small businesses cannot sustain further government regulation and increasing taxes. Mr. Reed has worked in the medical equipment industry since 1991. He has been for the past six years Vice President of Preferred Medical Systems. Preferred Medical is an exclusive representative of diagnostic medical ultrasound systems in six states for General Electric Healthcare. “I know firsthand the health care industry, and even with its problems, it is still the best system in the world. This health care bill does nothing to improve the quality of the system in Alabama or elsewhere. It will impose new tax increases that will have a negative impact on our suffering economy,” Mr. Reed said. Mr. Reed is seeking the Senate seat that is comprised of all of Walker and parts of Tuscaloosa, Winston and Jefferson Counties. Greg and his wife, the former Mitsy Harbison, are natives of Cordova, Alabama. They have been married for 21 years and have three sons. Their sons Andrew and James are 15 year old twins, and John Michael is 13 years old. The Reed boys attend Jasper City Schools in the 9th and 7th grades.
