CLIENT NEWS: Greg Reed Officially Qualifies with ALGOP for Alabama State Senate
PRESS RELEASE
March 3, 2010

(MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA)—Greg Reed, small businessman and Republican candidate for the Alabama State Senate, District 5, officially qualified with the Alabama Republican Party today on the first day of qualifying. District 5 is comprised of all of Walker and parts of Tuscaloosa, Winston and Jefferson Counties.

“I have been running hard since my official announcement to seek this seat in January.  My days have been packed with meeting voters, traveling the district, and raising the necessary funds to win in June,” Mr. Reed said.

According to the Secretary of State campaign finance records, Greg Reed ended the 2009 fiscal year with over $120,000 more cash on hand than his closest opponent.

Mr. Reed said he will focus on three issues as the cornerstone of his campaign:  Bringing new jobs that will rev the engines of prosperity; gearing public education toward real-world employment opportunities for graduates; passing meaningful ethics reform to bring more accountability and transparency to state government.

He also said he was running to end “politics as usual” in Montgomery. “Alabama is facing unprecedented budget shortfalls among other problems that need the experience of a small businessman, and I am putting myself forward as the candidate who can bring fiscal sanity to state government,” Mr. Reed concluded.

Greg Reed has worked in the medical equipment industry since 1991. He has been for the past six years Vice President of Preferred Medical Systems. Preferred Medical is an exclusive representative of diagnostic medical ultrasound systems in six states for General Electric Healthcare.

Greg and his wife, the former Mitsy Harbison, are natives of Cordova, Alabama. They have been married for 21 years and have three sons. Their sons Andrew and James are 15-year-old twins, and John Michael is 13 years old. The Reed boys attend Jasper City Schools in the 9th and 7th grades.
