CLIENT NEWS: Senator Sanford Condemns False, Negative Robo-Calls Against Him

January 21, 2010

(HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA) – State Senator Paul Sanford (R-Huntsville) released the following statement today regarding misleading pre-recorded messages that have been sent to residents of Senate District 7.

“When I was elected by the folks of District 7 to represent them in Montgomery, it was because they understood that I am not a career politician who will simply do whatever it takes to get elected. Unfortunately someone, who is conveniently hiding behind a pre-recorded message, has decided to resort to lame, over-used, political tactics instead of talking about the issues that are facing Alabama’s families. It is disheartening to me to know that while I am fighting for the people of Madison County in Montgomery, one of my political opponents has decided to resort to tired political tricks.

“The people of District 7 are tired of ‘politics as usual’ and petty political games. By claiming that I am for raising taxes, whoever is behind this recorded message is blatantly distorting my record.  Not only am I opposed to all tax increases, I am also opposed to blindly raiding the Alabama Trust Fund in an effort to score political points, which is exactly what Democrats are trying to push through the legislature.

“If my election in June and the recent election of Massachusetts Senator-Elect Scott Brown has taught us anything, it is that people are tired of the same failed policies of the past which are fueled by playing the same old political game.

“I was elected as a citizen-lawmaker who will stand up for what is right, not what is just politically expedient, and that is exactly what I am doing. It is time that we move forward and stop political backbiting and instead focus on the work of the people.  That is what I am doing everyday and I hope that whoever is behind this misleading attack on my record will join me in that fight.”
